Comedian and Big Mouth star Jak Knight’s death has been ruled a suicide, according to a Los Angeles County coroner’s report obtained by People. The writer and actor was found dead last Thursday on a Los Angeles embankment with a gunshot wound. He was 28.

“Knight’s loved ones ask that their privacy please be respected during this extremely difficult time,” a family representative said in a statement last week, when Knight’s death was first reported.

Best known as the voice of DeVon on Netflix’s Big Mouth, Knight also served as a staff writer and story editor on the series for five seasons. The stand-up comic would later write for Black-ish and cocreated Peacock’s Bust Down, which premiered in March and costarred Saturday Night Live’s Chris Redd, Sam Jay, and Langston Kerman. His other credits include Lucas Bros Moving Co, American Dad! and Chelsea Peretti’s upcoming project, First Time Female Director.

After news of Knight’s passing was confirmed, tributes from the comedy community began to pour in.

“I’m in shock. There was no one like Jak Knight,” Fire Island’s Joel Kim Booster wrote in a tweet. “A singular talent, actually funny and a genuinely kind person, a rare combo. I just can’t believe this at all.”

Everything’s Trash creator Phoebe Robinson tweeted, “Truly shocked to hear about Jak Knight’s passing. Only 28. A brilliant stand-up comic and dope person. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and loved ones.”

Hacks star Hannah Einbinder wrote on her Instagram story, “At 28 he was smarter, funnier and more insightful than most comedians ever are in their entire lives. Jak you were so beautiful. I’m so sorry.”
